A man with a bordello beard and long hair is fighting back tears as he speaks of his struggles to fit in with a woman he only met a few days ago.
Rio Ferdinand, a star in his native Brazil, came out as transgender last year and has been working with the organisation Transgender Australia.
He was born as James Rodrigues and he said the news has been devastating.
“I can’t really go out and wear clothes now, I can’t walk outside, I don’t go to the cinema, I get on the bus, I cannot go out for drinks, I don know what to wear and it’s all been very stressful,” he said.
“It’s been a nightmare.
It’s been tough.
Rio has been battling depression for years and the 28-year-old has struggled with his own mental health issues.”

He said he was in tears after speaking to his manager about his mental health.
“That’s the last time I ever did it, but now I’m starting to talk to people about my mental health,” he told Sky News.
“And I’ve also had to think about all the things I have to change, and so I have had to change a lot, and I’ve been thinking about what to get me done in my life, so I’ve started wearing a bun and it has really helped.”
The ABC’s Katherine Murphy reported that the man said he had a “fractured relationship” with his family.

The 28-time World Cup winner has been in the spotlight for his outspoken stance on transgender issues.
